What are the themes of the movie?

I think there could be a lot of themes for this movie like Action, love, self confidence, character driven and finally a spy movie.

How does it present an idea of America?

Surveillance in this film help push the plot forward and help explains what is going on in the film.

What makes this film postmodern?

The relationships between the characters and also the power the C.I.A has.

Explain in your own words the motif that drives the plot forward?

The main motif I would say was the character with out each story the plot wouldn’t have moved forward as easy as it did.

Choose one work by each of two different Modern artists. Describe each work and explain how and why they are modern. Discuss the content of the Images and how they are made.

In this essay I will be writing about two modern artists. I will be taking pieces from each artist work, describing and explain about the work and why and how the piece is modern. The first artist I picked was Pablo Picasso and his piece of work called “The Old Fisherman 1895”. The second artist I have chosen to write about is “Aubrey Beardsley” and his most famous piece of work called “The Peacock Skirt 1894”.

The two artists I have chosen both work in different ways and styles of modernism. I picked these two because I want to explain two very different piece of work based around modernism which weren’t very similar. Modernism is mainly about the industrialized world going on at that point of time.

My first artist I will be writing about will be Aubrey Beasley and his piece “The Peacocks Skirt”. This piece of work stands out by far as it’s very unusual.
The illustration is a black and white lined; it was created by using pen and ink in 1894. The illustration reminds me of the Japanese culture mainly because of the lines used in this piece of work. The illustration itself is based on a play called “Salome” which was written by someone called Oscar Wilde. In the illustration you can see the beautiful Salome trying to lure the Syrian captain with her beauty to free John the Baptist. On the right hand of the illustration you can see the Syrian captain; his long black hair is decorated with peacock feather on the top his also wearing a heavily embroidered piece of clothing on his back how ever the embroidery is mainly at the bottom of his piece of clothing. In the top right hand corner there is also a peacock pattern which looks like it has been manmade. This illustration is modern because it’s about a play which is showing different cultures to a selected audience, showing different cultures was not following the “traditional” ways of the arts. It’s also showing a life style only the richer people would be able to go to plays, this was the life style of the “rich”. The illustration was also created to show the arts in a different form then a play.

My second piece is Pablo Picasso piece called “The Old Fisherman” created in 1895 this painting is oil on canvas. The painting shows a fairy old man sitting down, however in this painting the old man isn’t looking straight ahead as if he was looking back on the person viewing the picture instead his head is slightly lowed down and his look to his right. When looking at this picture you can tell that there is more depth then what you are seeing. In this picture it isn’t following the “traditional” ways of art mainly because the rich would be the only ones that would have there portraits painted and you can tell this man isn’t rich at all, his is a working/lower class person. The title helps you understand that it’s a modern “The old fisherman” the way it has the old mans job title which shows you his a working class person I also think the colours that are used help to understand that the painting is modern as its very dull and dark colours which are used. The way the old man is dressed very scruffy like, unshaven and dirty skin. In this time skin was often dirty mainly because of the smog this also shows that the painting maybe modern.

Looking at both of the pieces of work you can tell that they are very different. Picasso’s piece was more showing the working class of people and how the look while Beardsley’s work is more for the higher class person as its based around a different type of art form. Picasso’s piece of work I found the hardest to describe and explain mainly because I think there is much more depth to the painting then what I am seeing.

I've decided to pick once piece of my work and compare it to an artist that has
inspired me. The artist I've decided to pick is Alex Pardee mainly because I've been Inspired by this artist's work for so many years. To me Alex Pardee's work is amazing I've decided to use the piece of work called "Ghost Of Peacock Forest"

Alex Pardee's work has helped me out loads during college mainly in sketchbook.
I love the way his work is mainly fantasy type and the colours inspire me a lot, i love to play around with ink and Alex Pardee has help me out a lot to produce my work.

This is my piece of work i have created it is called "Zombie Jasmine".

Comparing the two pieces of work there is a lot of difference between them. Alex Pardee base his work on fantasy while my work is based on portait but at the same time a little bit of horror added into it. Pardee uses much more brighter colours in his work i believe to grab the attention of the person looking at it and to make it more a piece of fantasty type of work. In my piece of work I've decided to use dulled down colours and not so bright mainly to give it a more dark type feeling.

I decided to write my essay about Meret Oppenheim and her piece of work Object “Tea cup” 1936 and Louise Bourgeois piece of work “Woven Child” 2002 mainly because these two pieces of work looked more interesting to me then the others.

Louise Bourgeois’ “Woven Child” is based on human relations; I think it also might be based on the role of the mother and child; however it might also come under the role of women in human life or the nature of a females life as reproduction plays a big part in the human lifetime. The piece of art is a sculpture but at the same time is a piece of textile work using a wide range of different materials. The materials that are involved are showing the feelings; warmth, intimacy, vulnerability, tenderness, awkwardness and also looking after self and another these feelings play alot on what you feel when looking at the work. The materials used in this range from towels, garments, linens and many more different materials The colours in this piece of work make it eye catching, with the black background the mother and child stand out a little bit more also Bourgeois tries to put across the feeling that people need each other in order to survive a cold world, this is emphasised by the use of the colour blue for the womb.

However in Oppenheim's "object" the piece of work is from the Surrealism movement. Oppenheim’s work was produced in a time of feminist criticism so I believe that this piece of work is based on the female body or even the female role. I’ve been told that the fur cup represents a female’s vagina and if so the piece of work is saying to look past the fur cup and respect women for who they are. However the idea of a fur cup representing a female’s vagina is very strange but at the same time very clever as maybe it is just showing a darker side of surrealism which was going on at the time. The materials used on the piece of work looks as if its animal fur maybe sculptured with wire to create the based or even made with clay for the base. The colours are very dull but at the same time grab the person’s attention, I think this may be because of the contrast going on with different shades of yellows, also I think it stands out its different mainly because when you look at a teacup you don’t expected the fur to be there, so its playing around with the person viewing it.

I believe both pieces of work show something to do with people, mainly females; however they both are based on different subjects. Oppenheim has kept along the lines of representing the anatomy while keeping the eye on the sexism behind the piece itself, whereas Bourgeois has chosen to show the feelings behind her piece with the use of colour and composite materials.
